At 20:00, you will leave for a walk along the beach, where you’ll have the opportunity to witness sea turtles to lay their eggs in the sand. The Sukamade Turtle Conservation Program is one of the most important sea turtle protection initiatives in Indonesia. The program focuses on safeguarding endangered sea turtles. When female turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs, trained local rangers carefully monitor the nesting process. In some cases, the eggs are collected and moved to a protected nursery to increase their chances of survival, as natural nests are vulnerable to predators, human disturbance, and environmental hazards such as erosion. The eggs are incubated in the nursery for several weeks under controlled conditions. Once the hatchlings emerge, they are safely released into the ocean, helping to boost the population of endangered turtles. These turtles face numerous threats in the wild, including poaching, fishing nets, and habitat loss.

At 06:00, you will have a unique opportunity to release baby sea turtles into the ocean at Sukamade Beach. During your visit, trained local rangers will guide you through the process. The baby turtles, or hatchlings, have spent several weeks incubating safely in the protected nursery, where they were carefully monitored to ensure the highest chance of survival. Now it is time for them to begin their journey in the ocean. You will have the chance to gently pick up the hatchlings and place them at the water’s edge, observing as they instinctively make their way into the sea. This is a critical moment in the turtles’ life cycle, as their early journey in the wild is filled with challenges and dangers. By helping them safely reach the water, you are actively contributing to their survival and supporting the conservation efforts of the program.
